OLD AGE HOME, TAVANUR


HEAL Social Service Club visited  the Old Age Home  at Tahvanur in Malappuram District on 29th Sep 2010 behalf of Old Age Day. Tavanur Old Age Home is one of the prominent and important center for the people who are not getting care from their home/ children/family or spouse. 25 inmates are presently residing in the old age home. It includes 13 female and 12 male inmates.
50% of the inmates said that they felt isolation from their son and daughter in law. There by bound to choose a shelter to stay with out giving disturbance to others.
The 25% of inmates has decided to come to the old age home due to the loneliness they felt at home. The remaining inmates were suggested by some social service agency and some social workers or Police who was wandering street or seeking protection from vulnerability.
The Old Age Home gives admission to those who adhere to  the following condition
a)       The admission is depending up on the availability of the bed in the Old Age Home
b)       The person can be done his/her primary activities at least  an average level
c)        The person has to be referred by the Government Hospital.
d)       The person has to be referred by a social worker with the knowledge of the ward member where the inmates are belonging. It should be informed to the (local )Civil Police Station
e)        The person has to get consent from their children through proper channel.
COMMON GERIARTIC PROBLEM
a)      Enuresis and Encopresis (Incontinence of urine and Feces) 
b)     Visual and Hearing impairment
c)      Memory and consciousness impairment and confusion.
d)     Depression, anxiety, irritability, fear of death, lack of self care and loneness,
e)      Depression, anxiety, fear and irritability.
f)       Wrinkle, acute physical pain and impairment in motor activity.
g)      Idea to flee from home and lack of concentration

The club members conducted musical competition and quiz for the inmates of the Old Age Home.  More than nine inmates participated in the musical competition and four inmates won the quiz competition.
